Dear Shooters:

 

Attached is the match report for the BORCC August 2009 IDPA BUG Match. There were 39 registered shooters with 7 shooting a second firearm for a total of 46 competitors. The course design was challenging besides being a serious pain in the A__. My ears were burning most of Sunday as my family name was denigrated. Since it was a BUG match I will give those results first.

 

The top shooter in 5SR (five shot revolver) was BORCC’s own Mike Hasse. Mike locked up the J-Frame division by taking both first and second place. Mikes best run put him in 17th overall for the match (which is 63 %). The BUA (backup automatic) division was headed up by Randy Cieslolka taking 12th overall for the match (74 %). Honorable mention goes to Mike Whitaker who took second place in BUA and 16th overall for the match. Good shooting gentlemen.

 

The normal firearm divisions were not restricted with the five round limit the BUG guns had to contend with. The lowest time in SS (Stock Service) and overall lowest match time goes to Dan Gipe. CD (Custom Defense) has Otis Lawrence on top and 2nd overall for the match. Bill Woods brought home the lowest time in ES (Enhanced Service) with 4th overall for the match.

 

On the bottom of the score sheets are the two or three letter designations for the seven firearm divisions. The only ones not listed above are SR (Stock Revolver) and ER (Enhanced Revolver) which is setup for full moon clips. Please, please, please circle the firearm division you are shooting in so I know where to put you on the match report. There was some confusion in the two BUG divisions with some of the shooters writing BUG on their score sheets. I did not know if you were shooting a revolver or an automatic. On the back of the score sheet, if you fill in the Firearm Make & Model and the Cartridge I can usually figure it out.

 

On Stage 7 (The Hallway to Crow Ville) only three shooters did not get the US Popper down. Some of the times suggest there was trouble dropping the popper. I had no problem with the popper; however the paper targets gave me headaches.

 

Stage 2 (Been Hit) the nasty little five shot stage where you had to set the firearm on the table and pick it up again with your weak hand seemed to eat a lot of shooters. Fifteen shooters had one or more failure to neutralize penalties on this stage. Yes, I was one of them.

 

Stage 3 (4X Mozambique) with the four targets at close range (an arms length or closer) is an interesting study on defensive tactics. Many of the shooters were blowing the pasters off the targets. This suggests that you were not moving far enough from the attacker to prevent them from plunging a knife into your chest before you could clear leather. Think about it. Win the match; die on the street.
